Performance Comparison Between Closed-Loop and Open-Loop Cooling Towers!

Closed cooling towers (also known as evaporative air coolers, closed-loop cooling towers, or enclosed cooling towers) are designed with a tubular heat exchanger housed inside the tower. Cooling is achieved through the circulation of air and the spray of water on the exterior of the tubes, which facilitates heat exchange between the circulating water inside the tubes and the external air, thereby ensuring effective temperature reduction.

Counterflow Closed-Loop Cooling Tower [Principle, Features, and Advantages]

The counterflow closed cooling tower (also known as an evaporative air cooler or closed-loop cooling tower) features a tubular heat exchanger installed inside the tower. Cooling is achieved through the heat exchange between circulating air, spray water, and the coolant fluid. As it operates in a closed-loop system, this design ensures that the water quality remains uncontaminated, effectively safeguarding the efficient operation of the primary equipment and significantly extending its service life. Additionally, when ambient temperatures are low, the spray water system can be shut down entirely, further enhancing water-saving performance.

Is the service life and efficiency of closed cooling towers related to water quality?

As the water quality of cooling water, although there are no strict restrictions on various indicators like process water and boiler water, in order to ensure stable production, no damage to equipment, and long-term operation, the water quality requirements for cooling water are still quite high.

What are the reasons for the high water temperature of the cooling tower?

The water in the cooling tower is generally dissipated by natural heat, so the volume and heat dissipation surface area of the cooling tower are required to be large enough. If the ambient temperature is too high, such as more than 40 ℃, the cooling water temperature in the cooling water tower will be higher, thereby reducing the heat exchange capacity, so that the machine oil temperature can not be cooled.

Does the cooling circulating water in a closed cooling tower absolutely have to be pure water?

Closed-circuit cooling towers require a substantial amount of circulating cooling water to ensure optimal cooling efficiency. One key difference between closed-circuit and open-circuit cooling towers is that closed-circuit systems feature two distinct water circulation loops. When designing a closed-circuit cooling tower, we incorporate a dual-pump system—each pump dedicated to either the internal loop or the spray-water circulation, allowing them to operate independently. The water in the internal loop flows through cooling coils and must be pure water, while the spray water, which comes into direct contact with air, does not need to be purified.

How should I handle a closed cooling tower that's leaking water?

When it comes to leakage failures in closed cooling towers, the first issue you typically encounter is corrosion-related water seepage from the tower structure itself. This, to a large extent, leads to uneven wall thickness—resulting in brittle leaks precisely where the material has thinned out significantly.
