What should be noted when cleaning and maintaining a closed cooling tower?

It is understood that manufacturers of closed-circuit cooling towers reveal that the proper functioning of a cooling tower directly affects its operational efficiency. Over time, as closed-circuit cooling towers are used, various externally exposed components tend to accumulate scale—especially inside the system and around the water distribution piping. Regular cleaning of these critical areas is particularly important and should not be overlooked, as neglecting this maintenance could lead to minor issues escalating into major problems, ultimately disrupting the smooth operation of the cooling tower.

When cleaning and maintaining closed cooling towers, please note the following points:

Important Notes

I. Cooling tower fillers, serving as the medium for heat and moisture exchange between air and water inside the tower, are typically made from high-grade PVC material—classified as a type of plastic—and are easy to clean. If you notice dirt or microbial buildup on the fillers, simply rinse them with pressurized清水or a suitable cleaning agent.

II. When dirt or microorganisms accumulate in the water collection pan, they are easy to spot, and a simple rinsing method can effectively clean them off. However, be sure to block the cooling tower's outlet before cleaning, and open the drain valve during the process to allow the dirty water generated after cleaning to flow out through the drain—this prevents it from entering the return pipe of the cooling water system.

3. When cleaning the water distribution system and packing materials, follow these procedures. For systems equipped with a belt-driven reduction unit, inspect the tension of the drive belt every two weeks and adjust it if necessary. If the tension varies significantly among multiple belts, all belts should be replaced. Additionally, if the cooling tower remains idle for an extended period, the belts can be removed and stored safely.
