What should be noted when replacing the packing in a closed cooling tower?

Over time, the fill section of a closed cooling tower inevitably accumulates blockages and may even suffer damage. However, to ensure the cooling tower continues to deliver optimal performance, we often need to replace the cooling tower fill with new ones. So, what are the key points we should keep in mind before replacing the cooling tower fill?

1. The water-distributing packing should be assembled according to design and installation requirements. The designed lengths of the molded sheets are typically available in four specifications: 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, and 2.0 meters, catering to various engineering designs. Additionally, for ease of installation and maintenance, the volume of each assembly unit should not exceed 0.5 cubic meters.

2. When using adhesive assembly for the water-distributing packing material, it should be carried out on a level surface. The ambient temperature at the site must not fall below 5°C. After completing each assembly group, immediately press firmly with a flat steel plate to prevent delamination caused by warping of the molded sheets themselves. Only after the adhesive has dried and fully cured can the assembled units be moved and placed onto a level ground—ensure that the stacking height does not exceed 2 meters—and avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight.

3. Based on the internal layout of the tower, small pieces of packing material should be systematically cut and used to fill any irregular gaps. Ensure that the assembled blocks are tightly packed and fully filled. Additionally, the packing material should be firmly pressed against the tower walls, shafts, columns, and beams, with the maximum gap not exceeding 20 millimeters.

4. When installing, pay attention to the correct orientation of the assembly blocks—ensure each layer is laid flat on its top surface, and thoroughly clean between layers to remove any debris or obstructions.

5. When installation, maintenance, or other work requires operations on the packing material, a flat board must be laid down first; direct stepping on the packing is strictly prohibited.

6. During construction, assembly, and installation, welding operations above the packing material are strictly prohibited; if necessary, fire prevention measures must be implemented.

7. During installation, a dedicated person should be assigned to oversee the process, ensuring meticulous organization and conducting timely inspections to guarantee high-quality installation.

Closed-circuit cooling tower fill typically uses PVC material and is easy to use.
