Two circulation methods for cooling towers.

Closed cooling tower; also known as a sealed cooling tower or simply "closed tower." It features two distinct circulation loops: an internal loop and an external loop. At its core are heat exchangers made of materials such as copper tubes or stainless steel tubes.

Closed cooling towers—also known as enclosed cooling towers or simply "closed towers"—are a type of cooling system.

It has two loops: an inner loop and an outer loop. The main core components include copper tubes, stainless steel tubes, and other surface coolers.

① Internal Loop: Connected to the target equipment, forming a closed-loop system (with softened water as the circulating medium). This loop cools the target equipment by transferring heat away from it to the cooling unit.

②External Circulation: In the cooling tower, this process cools the tower itself. It does not come into direct contact with the internal circulating water; instead, heat exchange and dissipation occur via a copper tube-based cooler located inside the cooling tower. Under this cooling method, an automatic control system adjusts the motor’s operation based on the water temperature setting.

In two cycles, during the high-temperature environmental conditions of spring and summer, both cycles need to run simultaneously. However, in autumn and winter when the ambient temperature is not high, only one internal cycle is typically sufficient.

From an environmental perspective, closed-loop cooling towers operate as a sealed, recirculating system that uses softened, purified water. This ensures the circulating water remains free from external contamination and allows for near-zero emissions, delivering remarkable water-saving benefits. (Friendly reminder: Softened water must be used for the internal loop, while tap water can safely replace it in the external loop.)

A year-round, closed-loop cooling tower also requires consideration of freeze protection.

Unused equipment can be drained before winter to prevent freezing.
