How do closed-circuit cooling towers achieve water-saving effects?
Closed-circuit cooling towers are playing an increasingly important role in industrial production processes. This is not only because of their excellent cooling performance, but more importantly, because they help companies save costs.
Closed-circuit cooling towers are playing an increasingly important role in industrial production processes. This is not only because of their excellent cooling performance, but more importantly, because they help companies save costs.
Today, let’s join Xiaozhou to find out how closed-circuit cooling towers achieve water-saving effects!
The internal circulation system of a closed-circuit cooling tower
Principle of the Oasis Ice Peak Closed-Circuit Cooling Tower
The circulating water (or other media requiring cooling) flows through a closed coil, completely isolated from the air, with no evaporation and no consumption. Compared to open cooling towers, this approach significantly conserves water resources. (In open cooling towers, the circulating water directly contacts the air, resulting in substantial evaporation and high water consumption.)
The external circulation system of a closed-circuit cooling tower
Principle of the Oasis Ice Peak Closed-Circuit Cooling Tower
The spray pump in a closed-circuit cooling tower draws water from the collection basin and delivers it to the upper part of the heat-exchange coil. The water is then evenly sprayed onto the coil’s surface through nozzles, where it exchanges heat with the tube walls. Finally, a fan carries the heat away from the tower.
The unevaporated water droplets are returned to the collection tank via a dehydrator and reused.
Therefore, closed-circuit cooling towers can reuse spray water, achieving a high water-saving rate.
Moreover, a closed-circuit cooling tower is a closed working environment with a very low drift rate.
Closed-circuit cooling tower operating modes
Closed-circuit cooling towers have two operating modes: air-cooling mode and air-cooling plus spray mode. (These two modes automatically adjust based on factors such as outlet water temperature, operating conditions, season, and the availability of local water resources.)
When the outlet water temperature requirement is low, activate the air-cooling + spray mode to achieve rapid cooling.
When the required outlet water temperature is relatively high, you can simply activate the air-cooling mode to achieve the desired cooling effect. (In this stage, since the spray system is not activated, significant water resources can be saved.)
Moreover, during the spring and summer seasons, when ambient temperatures are relatively high, it’s necessary to activate both air-cooling and spray-misting modes. In the autumn and winter seasons, when ambient temperatures are lower, sometimes only the air-cooling mode needs to be activated. For the arid and water-scarce regions in northern China, the advantages of closed-circuit cooling towers become even more pronounced.
