The main body of a closed-circuit cooling tower generally consists of four parts: the outer shell, the heat exchanger, the fan, and the spray pump.

Its core component is the heat exchanger—the part that facilitates heat exchange between the inner and outer circuits. Commonly used materials include copper tubes, stainless steel tubes, and carbon steel tubes. The structural forms include smooth tubes, corrugated tubes, and finned tubes.

Common shell materials include galvanized steel sheet, aluminum-zinc coated steel, magnesium-aluminum-zinc coated steel, stainless steel, glass-reinforced plastic, and carbon steel, among others.

The fans are typically axial-flow fans, available in several types, including direct-drive, geared, and belt-driven models.

Spray pumps typically feature low-head, high-flow, and low-power centrifugal pumps. In some projects, however, this specific configuration is not provided; instead, the owner uniformly equips the system with high-flow circulating pumps that directly supply water to closed cooling towers as spray water.
