What are closed cooling towers, enclosed cooling towers, and square cooling towers all called?

A closed cooling tower (also known as an evaporative air cooler, closed-type cooling tower, or square closed cooling tower) houses a tubular heat exchanger inside the tower. It achieves cooling efficiency by facilitating heat exchange between circulating water inside the tubes and externally sprayed water, all driven by airflow.

A closed cooling tower (also known as an evaporative air cooler, closed-loop cooling tower, or square closed cooling tower) features a tubular heat exchanger housed inside the tower. It achieves efficient cooling by facilitating heat exchange between circulating water inside the tubes and spray water that flows over the tube surfaces, all while being cooled by ambient air. Because the circulating water in this system flows in a closed loop within the tubes, it remains free from contamination, ensuring optimal water quality and safeguarding the efficient operation of the primary equipment—thus extending its service life significantly. When ambient temperatures are low, the spray water system can even be shut down entirely, further conserving water resources. With the increasing implementation of national energy-saving and emission-reduction policies, coupled with the growing scarcity of water resources, closed cooling towers have seen widespread adoption in industries such as iron and steel metallurgy, power electronics, mechanical manufacturing, and HVAC systems over recent years.
