Why does the closed cooling tower keep losing water? What’s going on?
If a closed cooling tower continuously requires water replenishment, you should check whether there are any leaks in the cooling tower or its piping, since in most cases, only leaks can lead to insufficient volume in the circulation system, resulting in the need for frequent water top-ups!

The make-up water for closed cooling towers is typically controlled entirely by a float valve. Water, as a liquid, naturally exhibits buoyancy, and the float valve can be simply described as a ball valve that floats freely within the system.
The segment connection of the float valve is located in the water-replenishment mechanism; the segment itself is a round sphere. As the river surface undulates, the spherical float of the valve gracefully rises and falls along with it.
When the river level rises, the float valve rises accordingly; as the water level drops, the float valve lowers to adapt precisely to the river’s surface. Even when self-spraying water is reduced, the river level still decreases, triggering the float valve to open the water-refill inlet. This automatically replenishes the cooling circulation system with fresh water.
When the water flow increases and the river level rises, the float valve also expands until it reaches a predetermined water level, at which point the water-supply branch pipe automatically closes. This is how automatic water replenishment works—the key control device here is the float valve.

Leakage phenomenon
When a closed cooling tower develops a leak, it actually leads to an increase in its water consumption.
When it comes to the material—aluminum-zinc coated steel—we should actually consider replacing the aluminum-zinc-coated sections.

Leakage Scenario
When leakage occurs at the plate sections where the water pool of the closed cooling tower is connected. During the assembly of the cooling tower, especially between the galvalume steel plates,
We actually just applied a compaction and sealing treatment using焦 (Jiao). However, after the equipment runs for an extended period, it immediately comes under the impact of sprayed water, causing the sealant to peel off!
It’s also possible that the pump is leaking—though this is actually quite rare. Still, when it happens, we should promptly contact the pump manufacturer. After all, a leaking pump can lead to the continuous need for water replenishment.
